Red Rock came to Copper Star Farm from Jim Halterman's renown RED breeding program.
Red is out of a dark red jack and a dark spotted jennet but he has a lot of black donkeys in his pedigree. Talk about diversity!!!
We had a freak snow storm the day of the auction, leaving about 8-10" of snow in Greencastle, PA.
I was not in no way planning on buying another jack. I was not planning on buying ANYTHING!
As I was walking through the auction barn I went in to look at the little donkeys.. Mr. Halterman had brought a really nice wooly spot jack, black jack, teeny grey jack and this little red roan jack. "Red Rock" would not leave my mind. So I haggled with Mr. Halterman and he humored a "poor teacher". I ended up taking this amazing little guy home. His structure is so compact. His legs are so correct and he has great stocky bones. I felt as though he would be a great tie-in with my breeding program since he has a really neat pedigree. I have been considering finding a jack that could breed with Holy Smoke's daughters for awhile. I have a lot of brood jennets that have red backgrounds from Texas and no red jack to breed them to. I also liked the fact that he has so much white roaning on his face/mane/and belly. I am also going to breed him to some of my white jennets as well to see what we get!
Red will be breeding a few girls in the fall. This boy is proven to sire exceptional foals. He has proven in one year that he can throw color/spots/wooly etc. Fantastic!
Red has some heavy hitters in his pedigree:
Valintino 50, Rearview's Red Beau, Soderglen's Black Beans, Dodge City's Jack of Spades, MGF LeRoy and Mr. Halterman's famous black herd sire, Sheloy's CJ.
It is with such a heavy heart that I move Holy Smokes posting down to the refrence herd sire section of this page.
He was the love of my life.
He will never ever be replaced by any of the jacks above.
He was exceptional.
He was the most important thing to me in the universe.
I can't believe he is gone.
I have never been so proud of owning an animal as I was to own Holy Smoke.
He passed away on 3/14/14. Autopsy is inconclusive.
His legacy will live on in his foals. They are each so special to me now. Trojan, Spartan, Gigi, Elizabeth Taylor, Marcie.
His forehead stars and blue eyes on his foals were his trademark.

This is a jack that has it all. An exquisite conformation, laid back personality, powerful color, pedigree, all in a small package. Holy Smokes babies are here and they are outstanding. They set the standard for my black breeding program.

His pedigree is outstanding and I say that without any hesitation. From the Dam side of his pedigree you have a older bloodlines with unique colors such as fully frosted and black roan mixed with the most renown black and white herd sire "Homer". On Sire side you have many famous name donkeys farms "PMF and Bandito" that have been bred over the years for their award winning correct conformation and flashy black coloring. I am retaining this special jack to throw amazing color. This little "Trojan Warrior" will be the herd sire for my black and white herd.
I was very sad to hear of the loss of Penelope's dam (Indian Tree Farm's Snow Bunny) winter 2011.
That makes this jack even more genetically special to the world of donkeys.
This guy has a great personality and would throw amazing color! HE is Black and White!

This is our fourth boy here at Copper Star Farm and boy is he fantastic.
Boy does he love to run and he has an outstanding personality!!!!! Sweet as they come.. Loving and just fun to watch!
